Adware & Spyware
With the explosive growth in the use of Internet, computer security has become a major issue. Internet users have to be careful about adware and spyware, both of which are malicious programs designed to display advertisements and steal personal information respectively. They can be a serious security threat and also a nuisance when your computer is connected to the Internet.
Adware:
Adware is software that displays advertisements. Some software vendors offer software for free in return for viewing sponsored advertisements. The advertisements are usually displayed at some corner of the software window or as pop-ups while surfing the Internet. Most adware can be uninstalled with the software. However, some adware are very stubborn and cannot be uninstalled so easily.
Genuine ad-supported applications are pretty decent. However, some malicious software vendors develop adware applications that install on your computer without your knowledge or permission and start displaying annoying ads. These can be deleted only by using an effective anti-virus software or by using an Adware remover.
Spyware:
Spyware programs steal your personal information and transmit it to third parties. Some spyware applications may even install a back-door on your computer which other malicious programs will utilize to get installed on your computer.
Spyware programs are similar to Trojan horses, which install on the user’s computer when he/she installed something else. Spyware usually spread through infected or cracked software and peer-to-peer networks. Some spyware also get installed when you visit certain websites by making use of browser exploits.
Spyware and adware and similar but different. Spyware applications mainly monitor user activities. Spyware can gather information about email IDs, passwords and credit card numbers and transmit them to third parties.
Both adware and spyware can be easily stopped. By installing a suitable anti-virus software and a firewall, most malware on the Internet can be very easily prevented from infecting your system.
