Spyware Posing as Flash Update Hits Firefox
There is a new malware circulating on the Internet that targets Mozilla Firefox. According to reliable sources on the Internet, this malware is a Firefox plugin that poses as an update for Adobe’s Flash Player. Users who unknowingly install the plugin are taken through some fake steps which may convince them to believe that the installation was complete.
Once the user’s computer is infested, it replaces the ads on Google search pages with its own ads. The plugin also tracks user behaviour and the pages browsed by the user.
While this malware indicates that contrary to belief Firefox is not 100% secure. That said, it is very easy to prevent malware such as this from infecting your computer. Use common sense and do not open suspicious files downloaded from the Internet.
Tips to stay safe from spyware and malware:
* Always download software directly from the developer’s website or other reputed websites such as Download.com.
* Do not download files from P2P networks i.e. torrents, etc and direct file sharing websites such as RapidShare or MegaUpload.
* Install good quality security software in your computer.
